Did your web designer talk with you about what SEO was? Search engine optimization...that's how Google and other search engines rank you. They use a number of factors including, how many pages your site has, how relevant to the topic is your page, how many incoming links from other sites to your site do you have. Also important is keywords, both visible on your site and those not visible to you but to the search engines.
If you do not have a good combination for all these items you will not rank well for terms you want to. Did your web designer tell how he was going to get you links, or how you need to?
Did he tell you how important having a lot of content about your topic on your site is? Did he tell how to use titles of pages and pictures?
